Location Information

Florida's Nature Coast area mainly consists of Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, Dixie, Levy, Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. It is located in the Big Bend area, which borders the Gulf of Mexico and is located in the upper west coastal portion of the state. All of the coastal communities that lie between the town of Wakulla Beach in the north, and Port Richey in the south, are considered part of Florida's Nature Coast area. It is the largest coastal region in the state. Some Nature Coast principle cities and communities include Wakulla, Wakulla Beach, Steinhatchee, Cedar Key, Yankeetown, Crystal River, Homosassa, Spring Hill, Port Richey, New Port Richey, Gulf Harbors and Holiday. Most areas of the Nature Coast are easily accessible from the north and south via US Hwy 19 and US Hwy 27. Jefferson and Wakulla counties are accessible from the east and west using Interstate I-10 which lies north of and runs almost parallel to the coast. The remaining counties which lie to the south can be accessed via Interstate I-75 which lies to the east of and runs almost parallel to the coast.

The Nature Coast is active in the preservation of Florida's many species of native wildlife and their natural habitats. Wildlife native to the area include the Florida Black Bear, Key Deer, Florida Panther, Bobcat, Manatee, Alligator, and a variety of birds ranging from the Florida Burrowing Owl to the Bald Eagle. Many native Florida animals are either on the Threatened or Endangered Species list. Here you will find an abundant natural Florida setting with beautiful shorelines unlike any other area.
